The mayor of Saint-Priest accuses the Lyon metropolitan area of acting "without taking into account the opinions of the municipalities"

On Friday, September 5, the mayor of Saint-Priest, Gilles Gascon (LR), widely criticized the urban planning project maintained by the Lyon Metropolitan Area for the town's Technology Park.
As an urban planning program undertaken by the Lyon Metropolis is taking shape for the Saint-Priest Technology Park, the mayor of the town, Gilles Gascon (LR), has expressed his disagreement with the project: "In Saint-Priest, Bruno Bernard wants to build massive amounts of housing... far from the heart of the city. However, we have already clearly stated our opposition to this type of project, due to the lack of schools, nurseries, and essential public services," shared the mayor of Saint-Priest on his Facebook account on Friday, September 5.
The project in question was published by the President of the Metropolis on his social networks on August 28: To replace the "35,000m2 of vacant offices and the 6,000 underused parking spaces" of the Technology Park to create housing.
On Facebook, the mayor of Saint-Priest, who is also the head of an opposition group to the Metropolis, attacks Bruno Bernard: "After 5 years of brutal and authoritarian governance, he continues: alone against everyone, convinced that he is right." He accuses him in particular of wanting to "concrete excessively" and of having acted "without taking into account the opinion of the municipalities concerned."
Contacted by our colleagues at Le Progrès, the vice-president of the Metropolis in charge of urban planning, Béatrice Vessilier, stated that a "prospective reflection" has been taking place since 2022 on the Grande Porte des Alpes district "in consultation with the municipalities in the area." According to her, the mayor of Saint-Priest has even agreed to "a gradual experimentation of this transformation."
As for the accusation of "concreting the city" , the latter on the contrary affirmed that the objective was "to create a large green belt in the East of Lyon" in particular by "vegetating" the space.
