Egyptians launch symbolic food bottles into the sea to help Gaza

The images of the starving population coming from Gaza are shocking. In an attempt to help the Palestinians, Egyptians have begun throwing plastic bottles into the Mediterranean Sea . They fill them with rice, pasta, legumes, and grains and let them float to the waves in the hope that they will reach the shores of the Strip. This symbolic initiative is being shared under the hashtag #BottlesToGaza and also promoted by the London-based association Palestine House. Among the most active are the Egyptians, who have invited the populations of countries bordering the Mediterranean, including Libya, Tunisia, Algeria, and Morocco , to participate and do the same.

According to the NGO Refugees International, the number of deaths from hunger in Gaza this past week is about to equal the number of deaths from hunger recorded in the Strip since the beginning of hostilities on October 7, 2023. The Government Media Office in Gaza stated that 100,000 children under the age of two, including 40,000 newborns, risk dying within a few days due to the "total lack of milk, nutritional supplements, the continued closure of crossings and the prevention of entry for the simplest of children."
