Israel Raid on Nasser Hospital in Khan Yunis: Who Are the Four Journalists Killed?

Israel Raid on Nasser Hospital in Khan Yunis: Who Are the Four Journalists Killed?

Hossam al-Masri was covering the Israeli army's attack on Nasser Hospital in Khan Yunis, southern Gaza Strip, for Reuters news agency when the live video suddenly stopped. Three other Palestinian journalists also lost their lives: NBC reporter Moaz Abu Taha, Al Jazeera photojournalist Mohammed Salama, and Mariam Abu Daqa, who worked for various media outlets, including the Independent Arabic and the Associated Press . Their names join the more than 244 journalists and media workers killed during Israeli raids while trying to inform the world of what was happening in a place where, even today, international journalists are not permitted to enter.

Hossam al-Masri

"We are shocked to learn of the death of our staff member, Hussam al-Masri, and the wounding of another of our staff members, Hatem Khaled, in Israeli attacks on Gaza's Nasser Hospital today," Reuters said in a statement posted on its website. "We are urgently seeking more information and have asked the Gaza and Israeli authorities to help us get urgent medical care for Hatem," the statement read, referring to another journalist injured in the attack.

Al Jazeera confirmed that its journalist Mohammed Salam was also among the victims of the attack on Nasser.

Mariam Abu Daqa

Mariam Abu Daqa was 33 years old. She has never stopped reporting on the war on her social media channels, through photos, videos, and interviews. She works with several outlets, including the Associated Press . Daqa, who has a 12-year-old son evacuated from Gaza at the start of the war, has often worked in Nasser and recently reported on the hospital's doctors' difficulties in saving children from starvation. "We are doing everything we can to ensure the safety of our journalists in Gaza, who continue to provide vital eyewitness accounts in difficult and dangerous conditions," the AP stated.

Moaz Abu Taha

Moaz Abu Tah works for the American television network NBC.

The Palestinian Journalists' Union said the Israeli army (IDF) today committed "a new, horrific massacre against the Palestinian press, adding to its criminal record." Several fellow journalists were also injured in the raid, including photographer Hatem Omar (who works for Reuters and several other media outlets) and photographer Jamal Badah, who works for the Palestine Today television channel.

"In a new crime added to the bloody record of the Israeli occupation, which embodies its clear intent to strike at the free voice, the witnessing camera and the knights of the word, the occupation army has committed a terrible massacre against Palestinian news crews, resulting in the deaths of four fellow journalists who were killed while carrying out their professional duty of covering the ongoing aggression against the Gaza Strip," the union states.
