Israeli attack on Gaza refugee tents kills at least 12

Gaza health authorities say that at least 12 Palestinians were killed and dozens injured in an Israeli attack in Gaza City, northern Gaza Strip, in the early hours of today, the Guardian reports. According to sources, Israeli army tanks opened fire on tents housing displaced people in al-Shati camp, in the western part of the city. Israel has not yet commented.
The World Health Organization staff residence in Deir al-Balah, Gaza Strip, was attacked three times today, the health agency's director-general, Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, said in a post on X, adding that the residence's main warehouse was also attacked. "Israeli soldiers entered the facility, forcing women and children to evacuate on foot to Al-Mawasi amid active conflict," he wrote. "Male staff and their family members were handcuffed, stripped, interrogated on site, and subjected to gunfire. Two WHO staff members and two family members were arrested. Three were later released, while one staff member remains in detention. 32 WHO staff members and their family members were evacuated to the WHO office as soon as access was gained." He added: "WHO calls for the immediate release of the arrested staff and the protection of all its staff."
