Musk Doesn't Spare Road Safety: 10% of Nhtsa Staff Are at Risk

The Doge (Department of Government Efficiency), led by Elon Musk , does not seem to want to spare the Nhtsa (National Highway Traffic Safety Administration), the American federal agency that deals with road safety . The department led by Tesla's CEO is responsible for cutting costs in the public administration, including those of the Nhtsa. A representative of the Department of Transportation said that as of February 14, 4% of the agency's employees had already lost their jobs . According to the Washington Post , the layoffs should affect about 10% of the total Nhtsa workforce , or between 70 and 80 people (the agency currently employs about 800 people).
The NHTSA, as mentioned, is the US federal agency responsible for road safety. Over the years, the latter has opened several investigations against Tesla, especially regarding the assisted and autonomous driving systems of the company led by Musk . At the moment, according to what was reported by the New York Times , there are three active investigations against Tesla by the NHTSA. One of these would be related to the autonomous driving software: in particular, it would be verifying whether the latter is subject to malfunctions in situations of poor visibility. The NHTSA has not declared whether among the fired employees there were also some involved in the investigations concerning Tesla.
