Sora 2: Copyright Controls and Revenue Sharing

Sam Altman , CEO of OpenAI, announced two new features for copyright holders. In the coming weeks, specific controls will be added that will allow them to authorize or deny the use of copyrighted content. Revenue sharing is also planned. Sora for iOS is the most downloaded free app in the United States.
Two new features for Sora 2Following the launch of Sora for iOS, hundreds of videos featuring characters from movies and animated series have been shared . This is clearly a copyright infringement , as the Sora 2 model allows for the generation of unauthorized content (no formal warnings or complaints have been issued to date).
As the Wall Street Journal discovered, copyright holders must explicitly prohibit the use of characters (opt out), otherwise they will be included in videos. OpenAI has now decided to change this policy. Sam Altman announced that rights holders will have more granular control over character generation. They will therefore be able to prohibit the use of their characters. In effect, an opt-in option will be offered, as is the case with the generation of videos featuring real people (cameos).
A revenue-sharing model will be available for copyright holders who allow the use of the characters. OpenAI will share a portion of the revenue generated by the videos. Altman specified that the best solution will be found through trial and error. Currently, Sora for iOS is free to use. ChatGPT Pro subscribers have early access to the Sora 2 Pro model.
