Thermal water. Concession to private individuals

The Casciana Terme Lari city council, held in the Spa Hall and open to the public, approved the signing of the memorandum of understanding between the Region and the City that outlines the future of the Casciana Terme spa . The document, approved by a large majority with the sole abstention of the minority Democratic Party (PD)-PSI (PSI) group, provides for the preparation of a tender for the awarding of the mining concession governing the use of the Mathelda water .

The tender will include, in addition to the concession to use the thermal waters, a lease of the Bagni di Casciana company, the current management company. The Terme di Casciana joint-stock company, which owns the properties, will remain outside the agreement, with the exception of Palazzo Poggi, which was acquired by the Municipality of Casciana Terme Lari through a tender process last year. The company is currently in liquidation. Upon completion of the liquidation process, ownership of the properties will pass, as planned, to the two partners according to their respective shareholdings: 75.66 percent to the Region and the remaining 24.34 percent to the Municipality.

Pending completion of the redevelopment of Bagni di Casciana and the transfer of 100% of the company to the Municipality through the well-known share-for-share swap, this aspect has now become a non-priority. Ownership of the Terme di Casciana will therefore remain entirely public. Following the memorandum of understanding that will be signed, the private entity will be granted the concession to use the thermal waters and manage all spa activities, the rehabilitation center, the traditional spa, and the wellness center for the next twenty years.

"I am satisfied with the work done," Mayor Paolo Mori emphasized. "This is just the first step toward a bright future for the spa. The management assignment marks a new chapter for Casciana, one in which both the Municipality and the Region will exercise control and oversight over the operations of the winning company, especially with regard to safeguarding employment levels."
