Three cyclists hit and killed by cars in the Bari area

Three cyclists died in a road accident on provincial road 231 southbound near Terlizzi, in the province of Bari, and a fourth was seriously injured. They were all originally from Andria. Around 8:30 a.m., they were hit and killed by a car that crashed into a guardrail. The victims, Sandro Abruzzese , Vincenzo Mantovani , and Antonio Porro , were members of the Ciclo Avis Andria amateur cycling group.

The driver, who called for help, was injured and taken to the Bari Polyclinic. The man is 32 years old and lives in Corato. Emergency personnel were unable to help the cyclists, who died shortly after the impact. Local police officers from Terlizzi and Ruvo di Puglia and the Carabinieri intervened and are investigating the incident.

"This news leaves us shocked and incredulous," wrote the mayor of Terlizzi, Michelangelo De Chirico , on Facebook. "The road, which should unite, today brings us only pain. Our most sincere embrace goes to the family and to the entire city of Andria, with our respect for silence and prayers, in the hope that they can find comfort in the closeness and solidarity of all our citizens."
