Tuscany's center-right has officially announced its candidate: Pistoia Mayor Alessandro Tomasi.

Alessandro Tomasi, mayor of Pistoia, is the center-right's candidate for President of the Tuscany Region, according to a statement released today following the regional leaders' meeting of the coalition parties for the regional elections. "The coalition, composed of Brothers of Italy, the League, Forza Italia, and Noi Moderati, has unanimously and confidently nominated Alessandro Tomasi as its candidate for President of the Tuscany Region," the statement read. The meeting, which culminated a long-standing and fruitful effort, was attended by Francesco Michelotti, regional vice coordinator of the Brothers of Italy (FdI), MP, Undersecretary Patrizio La Pietra, League coordinator Luca Baroncini, MEP Roberto Vannacci, regional coordinator of Forza Italia Marco Stella, and Noi Moderati MP Alessandro Colucci and his deputy Luca Briziarelli.
Tuscany will vote on October 12 and 13. Tomasi will face off against outgoing governor Eugenio Giani. The center-left coalition includes, in addition to the Democratic Party, Five Star Movement (M5S), Italy of Italy (IV), +Europe, and the Socialists. At the request of its leader Carlo Calenda, Azione (Action) withdrew, accusing the Democratic Party of having made a pact with the Five Star Movement "with too many ideological ambitions." On August 18, the Democratic Party and the Five Star Movement signed a 23-point coalition pact in Florence today to support Eugenio Giani's re-election as president of the Tuscany Region. The pact's provisions include a regional basic income system; measures to reduce working hours for equal pay and a shorter workweek; the doubling of the Florence-Pisa railway line; the closure of the Snam regasification plant in Piombino; a review of the waste management and quarry plans, including the restoration of the principles of the Marson law on territorial governance; No to the NATO base in Florence and the proposed military settlement in the San Rossore area. The 23 points put forward by the Five Star Movement also reiterate their opposition to the Florence airport development master plan and their desire to find in-house management solutions for the multi-utility.
The center-left coalition includes, in addition to the Democratic Party, M5S Avs, Iv, +Europa, and the Socialists. At the request of its leader Carlo Calenda, Azione withdrew, accusing the Democratic Party of having made a pact with the M5S "with too many ideological desires." "We will not support Giani in any way, and I don't care what the local leaders of Azione do. The national party will not be involved in this, and our voters are free to do what they want. The humiliating scene of Giani bowing to Taverna is unbearable," Calenda declared. Following Azione's decision not to support the broad camp in the upcoming regional elections, Azione's regional secretary, who opposed the move, resigned.
