Autostrade Alto Adriatico – agreement with Port System Authority for the digitalization of traffic flows

For the first time, Autostrade Alto Adriatico and the Eastern Adriatic Sea Port System Authority have signed an agreement for the implementation of experimental projects for the exchange and integration of digital systems of information on traffic flows to and from port terminals and toll booths. The agreement was signed in Trieste at the registered office of Autostrade Alto Adriatico by the President of the Concessionaire, lawyer Marco Monaco and by the Extraordinary Commissioner of the Julian Authority, Vittorio Torbianelli.
“The agreement follows a series of meetings to share programs between two entities that play a leading role in the Italian and national panorama in the logistics sector,” says the president of Autostrade Alto Adriatico, Marco Monaco. “Mutual knowledge of the processes between the two parties and the systematization of innovative plans is essential to be able to achieve results in the general interest of the other players in the sector as well.”
The integrated management of regional and North-East logistics is a challenge launched by the same motorway concessionaire and which was immediately taken up with satisfaction by the Port System Authority.
“Managing road flows related to ports in an increasingly efficient way, using digital technology, is a crucial issue – Torbianelli states – . We cannot limit ourselves to the port sections under direct jurisdiction (such as the gates, which will also be the subject of future technological investments), but we must think along the entire route of heavy vehicles. This agreement with Autostrade Alto Adriatico is an important step towards building an integrated system that generates shared benefits for the community and for the entire logistics chain”.
Currently, approximately 50% of traffic entering and exiting port areas occurs via the motorway network, which therefore remains the most important artery. The aim is to make these traffic flows more orderly, safe and easy and to improve their management along the motorway, the toll booths and the parking areas for heavy vehicles located along the artery. In terms of example, thanks to the agreement, Autostrade Alto Adriatico and the Port Authority will create technical tables to make available, via applications and digital systems, to hauliers entering and exiting ports a series of information that facilitates the user and makes the management of vehicle traffic more effective.
