The busy summer of Italian tourists

77% of Italians are reportedly warming up their engines in anticipation of leaving for their upcoming summer vacation, compared to 7% who are undecided and 16% who are inclined to stay put. Furthermore, the private car is reportedly the preferred means of transportation for 51% of vacationers, followed by the plane (30%), train (10%), bus (5%) and ship (4%). This was revealed by a study conducted by the flight and hotel search engine Jetcost which, in addition to analyzing flight searches carried out on its portal by Italians in the month of May to travel in the months of June, July, August and September, conducted a survey involving a sample of 800 people equally divided between men and women.
37% of the holidaymakers interviewed plan to stay away from home for a week, 32% for a period between 8 and 15 days, 26% for a maximum of 5 days, 5% over 15 days. Furthermore, 52% will leave with their family, 23% as a couple, 15% with friends, 10% will be 'solo travellers'. August is confirmed as the most popular month for going on holiday (46% of the sample) while the hotel is confirmed as the preferred accommodation (57%). The average expenditure per person , in turn, is estimated at 1,145 euros.
In terms of destinations, almost 7 out of 10 respondents (63%) will depart for national destinations with Lampedusa, Rome and Jesolo preceding Naples, Olbia, Gallipoli, San Vito lo Capo, Capri, Riccione and San Teodoro. Those looking to Europe will instead go to Tenerife, Paris, Zakynthos, Barcelona, Ibiza, Crete, Palma de Mallorca, Lisbon, London and Malta. Finally, the long-haul destinations preferred by those interviewed include Sharm el-Sheikh, New York, Bangkok, Istanbul, Casablanca, Marrakesh, Tokyo, Zanzibar, Bali and Havana.
