Coim presents its 2024 sustainability report

Coim , a company specializing in the production of specialty chemicals and polymers, has presented its 2024 Sustainability Report , based on data from 2024, which reports on the actions implemented by the group globally.
The report, prepared in line with the international standards of the Global Reporting Initiative (GRI), is the second at the group level and aims to report the sustainability results achieved to date and illustrate the actions implemented to reduce the impact of production processes and promote the well-being of the local area and the community.
“The sustainability report drawn up on 2024 data highlights Coim's integrated approach to sustainability which goes beyond certifications and processes but which passes through research and development to create, for example, solutions from renewable and recycled sources, compostable products, reduce CO2 emissions along the entire supply chain, as well as promote the psychophysical well-being of our employees who make COIM's success on a global scale possible” commented Giuseppe Librandi , CEO of Coim.
Coim is committed to defining targets and improving actions in the areas of energy efficiency and renewable energy . Regarding purchased electricity, the goal starting from 2025 is to limit its supply to certified renewable sources, leading to a significant reduction in emissions. The process of calculating Scope 3 emissions began with Coim Italia, which in 2024 completed a GHG Report for the Offanengo site, covering direct (Scope 1) and indirect (Scope 2 and 3) emissions. Based on this, Coim aims to extend the Scope 3 calculation to the entire group in 2025, based on 2024 data and prioritizing the categories with the greatest impact.
The pursuit of innovation and attention to environmental impact are among the company's cornerstones, with each product managed by a dedicated Research and Development team committed to developing products for new applications based on ever-evolving market needs, while maintaining product compliance, customizing existing products, and developing sustainable alternatives. To this end, the group has invested €10 million in 2024 to expand its research and development center, with the construction of a new, energy-efficient building that will include a state-of-the-art laboratory focused primarily on the development of low-emission products.
Regarding energy , the Coim group has focused on reducing greenhouse gas emissions through various initiatives and detailed calculations of Scope 1, 2 and 3 emissions. Coim Italia has also highlighted its commitment to responsible energy use through its Energy Management Policy , extended to all group companies in 2024, which translates into the priority of applying the highest energy efficiency standards for its plants.
The topic of materials stands as a key issue and Coim's R&D department is committed to researching sustainable and bio-based solutions to develop alternatives to existing synthetic products while maintaining similar product quality and performance levels.
Coim has obtained numerous certifications over time. In 2022, the Remade in Italy certification attested the use of recycled materials in its production, and in 2024 it adopted the broader Remade certification. Coim Italia also updated the OK Compost Industrial certification for some products in its adhesives line and inks for flexible packaging materials, as a result of significant investments in research and development. Furthermore, the group has committed to obtaining three different certifications for the NOVACOTE NE 810 + CE 510 product, the European Seedling certification and the American BPI International certification, which attested to the compostability and the possibility of safe and responsible disposal of a product in the environment. Finally, the NOVACOTE adhesives part obtained five Recyclass approvals during 2024 and 2025.
In 2024, Coim Italia obtained ZDHC certification for sustainable chemical management (Level 1) for a specific series of polyurethanes, demonstrating the company's commitment to the progressive elimination of the use and discharge of hazardous chemicals. Finally, in 2024, Coim Italia and Coim Us obtained ISCC Plus certification for their polyester polyols, for the use of bio-based and circular raw materials.
Coim has committed to maintaining its EcoVadis gold medal , which it also achieved in 2024, and to extending the assessment to other subsidiaries. The goal is to continue assessing individual legal entities and arrive at a group performance assessment in the future.
In 2024, Coim hired 181 new employees , focusing on attracting young talent and fostering a diverse workforce. Indeed, 60% of new hires fall within the 30-50 age group, 14% are over 50, and the remaining 26% are under 30. Another important focus within the company is training.
Numerous initiatives have been implemented to improve employee well-being , such as the construction of a nursery school in the Offanengo neighborhood, with an agreement allowing employees to use it at a discounted rate. These initiatives also include tax assistance and legal advice services, healthcare benefits for staff, including extended to their families, and bonuses and pension funds to retain talented employees. Some of the group's companies have awarded scholarships to employees' children, while others also organize awareness events on physical and mental health and prevention with industry professionals.
Finally, in 2024, Coim Italia participated in the Climate Ambition Accelerator , a comprehensive training program focused on climate change issues, promoted by the United Nations Global Compact . Participants are guided through practical steps to integrate climate objectives into their business strategies, aligning with global standards and contributing to the achievement of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
