Palermo violence emergency: the "Independence Movement" asks to participate in the security committee

The indifference of those who should be vigilant and intervene with the tools the law provides is unacceptable and shameful, yet instead we witness a daily series of criminal incidents targeting tourists and residents with unprecedented violence. The city, and especially the historic center, is now held hostage by gangs of immigrants and others who are terrorizing the area. We are in a veritable 'Wild West,' which, in addition to endangering personal safety, risks permanently tarnishing the image of a city that, during this period, is a tourist destination and, therefore, a driving force for the economy.
Every day feels like a war bulletin, with no concrete strategy in place to stem the problem. This is why the Independence Movement, founded by Gianni Alemanno, feels it is essential and imperative to participate in the security committee, already operational in the area, in order to contribute, alongside institutions and law enforcement, to the coordination of control and prevention operations.
"All this would also serve," the Independence Movement continues, "to send a strong message regarding safety and public order, allowing both citizens and tourists to feel protected and not abandoned."
Finally, Alemanno's Movement has declared its support for the protest led by Sinalp (the autonomous union of workers and pensioners) and its regional president, Andrea Monteleone. In a letter to Palermo's mayor, Roberto Lagalla, Monteleone described "a city in disarray, in total decay, with abandoned buildings and assaulted tourists. A city at the mercy of chaos, with indicators of poverty, unemployment, and a very slow bureaucracy: this is the perception we have of Palermo," the letter continues.
