Schlein and Orsini meet at the Nazareno. Focus: tariffs and industrial policies.

A one-hour meeting at the Nazareno between Democratic Party Secretary Elly Schlein and Confindustria President Emanuele Orsini focused on the tariffs imposed by US President Donald Trump and industrial policies.
The two were featured at the weekend conference organized by the Democratic Party , titled "The Routes of the Future." Both expressed concern about the 10 percent tariffs. "Compensatory measures are needed," Orsini thundered. "Be careful not to think that 10 percent tariffs are something fantastic. It's too simple to think like that. Of course, we're happy with the 50 percent tariff, but be careful. In some cases, there will be sectors that will have to increase prices by 20-22 percent, and it's not a given that they'll maintain their current market share."
Commenting on Trump's letter on 30% tariffs against the European Union a few days ago, the Democratic Party leader said: "I express the hope that between now and August 1st there will be time to negotiate and avoid a trade war that would have dire consequences for the Italian, European, and American economies. We must make our voices heard against this autarchic folly." Today, Orsini, speaking at the conference "Nuclear Future - Sustainable Energy for the Development of the National Energy Mix" in the Chamber of Deputies, added: "We can't just talk about tariffs, but we must understand at the EU level how to mitigate the collapse in the value of the dollar and tariffs. Because if it were truly 30%, we would have an impact of €37.5 billion on this country; if it were 20%, it would be €27.6 billion; if it were 15%, it would be €22.6 billion; if it were 10%, it would be €17.6 billion," and "the higher the tariff, the greater the devaluation will be."
