ChatGpt used by almost 9 million Italians, young people on Character AI

The use of ChatGpt is also accelerating in Italy. In April alone, the artificial intelligence app was used every month by almost 9 million Italians (8.8 million), equal to a fifth of the population that uses the Internet. The greatest penetration, 35%, is in the 18-24 age group; the app is used by 37% of students. These are the data contained in the report by digital expert Vincenzo Cosenza, based on the findings of 'Audicom - Audiweb system'. However, the analysis reveals that the app in the top in terms of usage times, almost 20 hours per month per person, is Character AI. It allows you to create a chatbot to talk in the style of famous people: it is used by younger people, especially women, and in the United States a light has been turned on for the lack of moderation and control.
According to the Cosenza report, in Italy ChatGpt is followed at a great distance by Google Gemini (used on average by about 2.3 million Italians, 2.8 million in April 2025) and Microsoft Copilot (1.9 million, 2.7 million in April 2025). In fourth place is the Chinese alternative Deepseek with 716,000 users on average (518,000 in April), followed by Perplexity with 270,000 and by Claude by Anthropic with 158,000. Closing the ranking is Character AI with 119,000 users and Grok, usable for two months in Italy inside X, with 54,000.
"The adoption of generative artificial intelligence applications in Italy is accelerating and shows very promising signs especially for the main chatbots such as ChatGpt, Gemini and Copilot - says Cosenza - The challenge of the coming months will be to move from the current type of use, sporadic and experimental, to a real integration in the professional and personal daily life of Italians".
