"With the new funds we will be able to make progress in the technology we use to carefully study what is happening in the Campi Flegrei, we will have a denser network on the ground at the bottom of the Gulf of sensors for soil deformations and seismic activity and the underground movement of gas and masses". This is how Mauro Di Vito, director of the Vesuvius Observatory of the INGV, comments to Ansa on the progress made with the 6 million in funding allocated by the Government for the work of scholars in the territories of Pozzuoli, Bacoli and the western neighborhoods of Naples for bradyseism and the Campi Flegrei volcano.

The 6 million have been allocated for the 'Rose' project , which also includes other INGV initiatives in Italy, but most of it will go to the Phlegraean territory that continues to live with bradyseism as demonstrated tonight by a 1.8 degree earthquake. The funding, Di Vito observes, "is sufficient at the moment because it derives from our point of view made and delivered to the government on our technological monitoring network, the implementation of the network but also the necessary personnel". With the new technologies "we will make progress in understanding the dynamics of the volcano much better both on land and at sea and - continues Di Vito - we will see the dynamic processes of the volcano that are affecting the caldera. It will be as if, on a human being, we could monitor not only one part of the body but have sensors more distributed throughout the body ". The implementation of the new technologies is expected in a year. In the meantime, starting this week, "we are starting a widespread measurement campaign on gas emissions in a large area, from the Bagnoli and Agnano neighborhoods to the municipalities of Pozzuoli and Bacoli. We will continue for weeks on an investigation to understand if there have been variations compared to previous years when we made similar measurements and therefore we will also see if there are changes in the dynamics of the underground volcano".
