Amazon restores service after massive outage affecting millions of users

Amazon restored its service on October 20 following a global outage of Amazon Web Services (AWS) that left airlines , financial services , and various technology platforms in several countries out of operations for several hours.
The company said most services began to recover throughout the day and its network was back up and running by the end of the day .

The outage originated in the Northern Virginia region, one of the company's oldest and busiest , and caused connectivity and application programming interface (API) issues for numerous services, Amazon said.
AWS explained that the outage occurred on the internal network of its Elastic Compute Cloud (EC2) system , which allows companies to run applications and manage computing resources in the cloud.
Among the affected services were Microsoft 365, airlines like United and Delta, payment apps like Venmo, and popular video games like Fortnite.

Amazon said it implemented “additional mitigation measures” to stabilize traffic and prevent further overloads.
Despite the magnitude of the fall, the company's shares rose 0.8% on the stock exchange. New York , reflecting market confidence in its rapid response and the strength of AWS , the world's largest cloud server network .
