Rehabilitation of the Cristo de las Noas is expected to begin this Monday.

The restoration of the monumental Cristo de las Noas could begin this Monday, July 7th. Work is expected to take no more than seven weeks, making way for the subsequent projects planned to beautify the site. There will be seven projects in total, expected to be completed over a two-year period.
The restoration of the image of Christ the King will be carried out within the framework of the 50th anniversary of sculptor Vladimir Alvarado's work. The investment ranges between 800,000 and 1.2 million pesos, with costs depending on tariffs.
The Shrine's rector, Víctor Gómez Hernández, commented that work could finally begin this Monday, which they hope will take no more than seven weeks. The goal is to have it ready for the Christ the King festivities in November.
In total, according to the priest, seven projects are expected to be completed, including the restoration of the Cristo de las Noas. Once the work is completed, the noa, where the monumental sculpture, nearly 22 meters long and weighing more than 500 tons, is mounted, will be taken care of.
The third project planned is the restoration of the façade of the Temple of Christ the King, also located high on the hill, right at the foot of the imposing statue.
According to the Shrine's rector, the work includes replacing the temple's stained-glass windows, as well as opening them for future events planned. He said the selected ones cost between 4 and 5 million pesos.
“Each project would take a month, so that’s why we’re taking so long,” the priest said.
A fourth work would be the placement of the crown on the image of Christ the King. The crown consists of an ellipse with a top axis of 1.6 meters, while its inner axis is 1.38 meters.
It is 90 centimeters high from the base to the top of the cross and 60 centimeters high at the peaks. Its thickness is 12 centimeters, but reaches up to 15 centimeters in the accumulated reliefs.
A fifth project would be to change the lighting inside the temple, and a sixth would be to continue with the Stations of the Cross located inside the Sanctuary.
And one last work will be the sanctuary for the Virgin Untier of Knots, similar to the one found in Cancún, Quintana Roo, and which will be located next to the cross there.
In April, Verónica Soto, director of the Cable Car and Puerto Noas and the main promoter of this project, reported that a couple married for 50 years had requested to sponsor the project. They will therefore be responsible for 90 percent of the project, allowing the project to grow beyond its initial expectations.
"It's a huge project," said the rector about the seven projects planned for the Sanctuary of Christ the King.
“It all started with the Christ, because it had to be rehabilitated, and then the Civil Association had to be formed.
"That's why it took us a while, because religious associations (RAs) are difficult to raise large donations. And that's what we're working on; these are both internal and material projects that we want to undertake to beautify the Christ," Father Víctor Gómez emphasized.
