Murtra adds two new members to Telefónica's board.

Telefónica's board of directors will appoint two new female directors, who will, in turn, replace two members leaving the telecommunications operator's governing body. The new additions are Anna Martínez Balañá and Mónica Rey.
40% balanceThus, the number of female members on the board will remain at six. As the current board is made up of 15 directors, the six members allow for maintaining the 40% female representation required by regulations starting in June 2026.
Anna Martínez Balañá has been selected for her knowledge and experience in innovation, digital entrepreneurship, and user experience. The telecommunications company believes she represents a new generation of managerial talent with a fresh perspective on digitalization and emerging business models, thanks to the experience gained in startups she has created, such as Sheltair (for managing flexible workspaces) and the startup she now leads, Balaña en viu, dedicated to the online sale of tickets for cultural events. The telecommunications company believes that, although she comes from the world of culture, she has a highly technological and user-oriented mindset and has demonstrated that traditional sectors can be transformed with digital solutions. Furthermore, she has real-world experience managing audiences, live programming, and digital platforms, as well as connecting with end users, which is key in Telefónica's current situation.
For her part, Mónica Rey has a well-established career in multinational companies. She has led complex change processes in highly demanding sectors such as telecommunications and healthcare. She has worked at consulting firms such as McKinsey and also at multinational companies such as General Electric. The telecommunications company believes this combination gives her a highly transversal and solid vision and will strengthen the board with global leadership, transformative capacity, and a deep understanding of different industries, as her profile is strategic for continuing to drive the operator's digital evolution.
DeparturesThe arrival of the two board members, as reported by El Confidencial and confirmed by EXPANSIÓN, will replace María Rotondo and Verónica Pascual. Rotondo, an expert analyst in the telecommunications sector whose professional career was primarily spent at Banco Santander, is leaving the company for personal reasons. She joined the board in September 2021, and her term was due to end in April 2026. Verónica Pascual's departure is for professional reasons, allowing her to devote more time to her businesses after selling her robotic industrial logistics company, Asti Mobile. Pascual joined the board in December 2019, and her term was due to end in 2028.
