The Taji military base, near the Iraqi capital Baghdad, was attacked with a drone last night, the Iraqi state news agency reported, citing a military officer. There were no casualties.

But there was material damage, the spokesman for the Iraqi ground forces confirmed, without giving further details.

In 2020, the US-led international coalition forces withdrew from the Taji base, handing the base over to the Iraqi security forces. In the months leading up to the withdrawal of coalition forces, the base was the target of regular rocket attacks by Iranian-backed militias, aimed at US forces.

Another drone came down overnight 10 kilometers (6 miles) west of Baghdad International Airport, in a district where U.S. troops are stationed at a base as part of a counter-jihadist campaign.

No one has claimed responsibility for the attacks.
