Collision on the S5. Moments later, the driver stopped breathing.

A seemingly minor collision on the S5 expressway, heading towards Wrocław, occurred on Wednesday evening, July 30. Around 8 p.m., the officer on duty at the Trzebnica police station received a report of a passenger car that had struck a crash barrier. A traffic patrol was dispatched to the scene.

Behind the wheel was a 66-year-old resident of the Wrocław district. The officers ended their intervention with a warning – there was no indication that the situation would change dramatically moments later. Just before leaving the scene, the officers noticed the man losing consciousness. His condition began to deteriorate rapidly. Officers Senior Sergeant Mateusz Pietrzak and Sergeant Kamil Kozan realized the driver was not breathing. Together with his son, they immediately began resuscitation efforts, pulling the victim from the vehicle and beginning CPR.

Their rapid response proved crucial – the man's vital signs were restored moments later. Although he did not regain consciousness, he was placed in the recovery position and covered with a thermal blanket. Officers monitored his condition until paramedics arrived. An air ambulance helicopter also landed at the scene. After providing first aid, the man was transported to the hospital. Photo: Trzebnica Police Headquarters.
