On Friday, commemorations of the 81st anniversary of the outbreak of the Warsaw Uprising took place. One of the events commemorating the insurgents has been the concert "Warsawians Sing (Un)Forbidden Songs."

The concert began with "Warszawianka 1831." After the song, host Justyna Dżbik-Kluge asked the audience for a minute of silence to honor those who died in the Warsaw Uprising.

Among the event's guests was Minister of Culture and National Heritage Marta Cienkowska. President Andrzej Duda and President-elect Karol Nawrocki also attended the concert.

Duda has assumed honorary patronage over the concert. This isn't his first time attending the event – last year he also sang songs of the uprising alongside the residents of the capital.

The politicians were accompanied in their sector by Karol Nawrocki's younger son. Duda and Nawrocki sang songs and posed for photos with other concert attendees.

The men wore identical T-shirts with the logo of the Warsaw Uprising Museum and the words Warsaw 1944.

The Chancellery of the President posted recordings of Andrzej Duda and Karol Nawrocki's joint participation in the concert on its social media profiles.

“Thank you for allowing us to sing together in praise of the heroes,” one of the posts read.

As in previous editions of the concert, attendees were given songbooks with lyrics for the songs scheduled in the program. The lyrics could also be followed on large screens set up in Piłsudski Square.

Friendship in difficult conditions

The themes of the insurgent songs sung this year revolved around wartime friendship. This feeling often blossomed into a lifelong bond among the insurgents. The insurgents also frequently spoke of how these friendships helped them survive the hardships of the uprising.
