The 22nd Baltic Herring Festival is underway in Niechorze

A unique celebration of taste, tradition and good fun by the Baltic Sea is taking place at the square next to the Lighthouse in Niechorze.
During the event at the lighthouse, the 22nd Competition for the best herring dish, entitled "Tastes of the Baltic Herring", takes place. The event is accompanied by performances, games and entertainment for children, a variety fair and traditional regional dishes. The maritime climate is supported by live music performed by shanty bands and the Amber Singers Choir. The event enjoys great interest.
And how does this year's season look like in Niechorze? We asked the mayor of Rewal, Konstanty Tomasz Oświęcimski.
- The season is a result of many different circumstances. First of all, the weather has to be good, people have to be happy and have money. And of course, there has to be a good atmosphere in the places they intend to visit - says the mayor of Rewal, Konstanty Tomasz Oświęcimski. - For all those who visit us not only in the summer, but also throughout the year, because the Rewal commune functions during four seasons, and the holidays are the culmination of our activities, including today, here at the traditional Baltic herring festival, we can meet tourists who will come from different parts of our country and that makes us happy. We are glad that we have a permanent group of our supporters. This group of supporters is growing a bit, we can see that, we are glad that they choose the Rewal commune and the beautiful places in our commune. They always serve our tourists and all those who come for a few days, for two days and for weekends, and sometimes even longer, to the beautiful Polish Baltic Sea. We have a sea shanty atmosphere, lots of fish dishes, beautiful music, shanties, the Amber Singers choir, which traditionally begins our Baltic herring festival. We are happy that under our beautiful lighthouse, an incredibly maritime element, we will celebrate for the 22nd time.
This year there will be no traditional paprikash. Master chef Robert Bochenko is preparing a new dish. It will be "fish a la non-horse".
