Tragedy during training, firefighter dies. Prosecutor's office makes final decision
The tragedy took place on April 27, 2024 in Ostrów Wielkopolski. A 39-year-old volunteer firefighter died during an exercise in a smoke chamber. Despite immediate resuscitation, he could not be saved. Now, as the ostrow24.tv portal reports, after many months of investigation, the prosecutor's office has discontinued the proceedings. The reason? No guilty parties were found.
The service reports that the prosecutor, analyzing the circumstances of the tragedy, found no irregularities on the part of the organizers of the exercises or in the equipment that was used. Witnesses were questioned, detailed expert opinions were conducted, and experts in the field of firefighting, forensic medicine and chemistry investigated every possible lead. According to information from ostrow24.tv, it was determined that the smoke agent used in the chamber complied with the standards and did not pose a health hazard.
No other people were found to be involved in the firefighter's death. The case was therefore dismissed.

Firefighters also found no faults. Firefighter died during exerciseA special commission of the State Fire Service also did not find anyone guilty of the firefighter's death. In its opinion, everything was done in accordance with procedures. - We will always ask ourselves whether it could have been prevented. Everything indicates that the tragedy was caused by health factors - said Sławomir Brandt, deputy commander of the provincial State Fire Service in Poznań for radio ESKA.
The case of the tragic death of the 39-year-old firefighter has thus been formally closed.
