Murder at the University of Warsaw. The university issued a statement, the rector declared mourning

"Today in the afternoon, the University of Warsaw Community was struck by a huge tragedy. Our colleague, a UW employee, was brutally murdered. The perpetrator was caught. We express our great sorrow and sympathy to the family and loved ones. A member of the university guard was also seriously injured" - this is the statement issued by the University of Warsaw on Wednesday, May 7 in the evening.
- On Wednesday at 6:40 p.m. on the campus of the University of Warsaw at Krakowskie Przedmieście, an incident of a criminal nature took place - informed Rafał Rutkowski from the Warsaw Police Headquarters, quoted by Polsat News.
The perpetrator attacked a 60-year-old porter at the Auditorium Maximum with an axe. He also attacked a security guard who tried to intervene and was seriously injured. - The attacker turned out to be a 22-year-old Polish citizen, not a resident of Warsaw. The man was detained shortly after the attack - Polsat reported.
The security guard has cut wounds to both hands and head - reported on her profile at X WSPRiTS Meditrans SPZOZ in Warsaw. The porter attacked by the killer "had numerous cut and chopping wounds to the upper and lower limbs, head and abdomen"

Colonel Bogusław Piórkowski, spokesman for the State Protection Service, told TVN24 that according to his knowledge, at the time of the incident, SOP officers were "conducting security activities on the University premises". As it soon turned out, the SOP was at the university in connection with the visit of the Minister of Justice Adam Bodnar to the University of Warsaw.
He pointed out that one of the officers "provided assistance to the intervening employees of the University Security Guard and also provided first aid to the injured employee."
At the time of the tragic event, the Minister of Justice, Adam Bodnar, was present at the university.- I was present on the university campus at the time of the incident. I was in a remote location, attending an academic lecture. I did not see this tragic incident. I learned about it after the fact from SOP officers - wrote on Platform X, Minister of Justice Adam Bodnar.
I am deeply moved by today's macabre event at the University of Warsaw. I offer my condolences to the loved ones of the deceased and the entire university community. I wish a speedy recovery to the injured guard
