The Gynecology and Obstetrics emergency department at Caldas da Rainha Hospital will be closed this Friday, a holiday, and throughout the weekend, reopening only on Monday. This information is available on the staffing schedules published on the National Health Service (SNS) website, Lusa reported.
The Caldense unit is one of the six emergency rooms in the country that will not be open on Friday, August 15, joining the hospitals Garcia de Orta (Almada), São Bernardo (Setúbal), Vila Franca de Xira, Santarém and Santo André (Leiria).
Among these, only Caldas da Rainha, São Bernardo, and Vila Franca de Xira will extend their closures throughout the weekend. Other facilities, such as Hospital Infante Dom Pedro (Aveiro) and Hospital Nossa Senhora do Rosário (Barreiro), will also face restrictions, but for shorter periods.
According to health authorities, the situation is due to a lack of specialist doctors to staff shifts, a problem that worsens during the summer and on long weekends, as is the case during this period. The NHS recommends that, before going to an emergency room, patients contact the SNS 24 line (808 24 24 24) for appropriate guidance.
