Lagos moves forward with four more rental housing projects

Lagos City Council awarded the construction of two new housing developments and opened a tender for two others, for a total of 109 municipal homes for rent, with an investment of over 18 million euros, on Wednesday, July 2.
As part of the Local Housing Strategy and with the first set of 47 homes already allocated, four new interventions are now moving forward that will increase the public housing response in various parts of the municipality, including in the city of Lagos itself and surrounding areas.
The construction of 24 homes in the municipal subdivision is planned for Chinicato. The award includes the preparation of the execution project, based on the existing Preliminary Study, and the execution of the contract.
The same procedure applies to the 14 homes awarded for the Municipal Subdivision II of Bensafrim (located next to the Municipal Market), where 14 new homes will be built.

The design-construction contracts have, respectively, an execution period of 540 and 410 days and values in the order of 4.2 and 2.4 million euros, plus VAT.
On the same date, the opening of tenders was approved for the design-construction contracts for 20 more homes in Bensafrim (to be built in the Lacóbriga Municipal Subdivision) and 51 new homes in Lagos (Santo Amaro).
These two interventions have an estimated cost of 11 million euros.

It is worth remembering that a competition is underway for the construction of 104 apartments for rent and a collaborative housing project, to be built in CHESGAL (in Lagos), budgeted at 19 million euros.
To cope with this large investment portfolio and given the uncertainties regarding the applications submitted for full financing of the “Housing Access Support Program” within the scope of the Recovery and Resilience Plan ( RRP ), the municipality decided to obtain financing from banks, using a loan of 25 million euros, the contracting of which was also assessed and voted on at the executive's ordinary meeting.
According to information provided by Hugo Pereira, president of the municipality, at a Council meeting, of the 4 million euros of investment already made in housing (in the three developments built in Bensafrim, Sargaçal and Lagos), the municipality has so far only received 900 thousand euros from the PRR.
