Paulo Raimundo: CDU is «the true safe haven», whether the waves are calm or big

Paulo Raimundo: CDU is «the true safe haven», whether the waves are calm or big

Taking advantage of the criticism left by MP António Filipe to Pedro Nuno Santos, who has repeated the idea that the PS is the «safe haven», Paulo Raimundo stated today that the CDU is the «wall of resistance» and «that true» safe haven.

“Ports are not safe when the tide is calm, but when the waves are big. Here is the safe port, with the waves calm and with the waves big. Give strength to the CDU”, said the communist leader, in front of more than a thousand people present at the Carlos Lopes Pavilion, in Lisbon, at a rally that had in the front row the former secretary general of the PCP, Jerónimo de Sousa.

In a speech lasting almost half an hour, Paulo Raimundo repeated some of the ideas that have guided his interventions during the campaign, listed proposals and reaffirmed his confidence in a better result compared to 2024.

“We need more votes, more strength for the CDU, more conditions to resist and move forward”, he said, reiterating the idea that the Democratic Unitary Coalition (which brings together the PCP and “Os Verdes”) is a project of hope, in contrast to the path of fear and resignation.

At the rally, Paulo Raimundo paid special attention to young people and the call for them to vote for the CDU .

“Youth is an immense force. Take advantage of this strength, open the path of hope and impose the direction of your rights, realize your desire to study, live, work and be happy in your own country. This country needs your strength, your creativity, your knowledge and your determination,” he stressed.

At a time when Paulo Raimundo feels that “support and sympathy” for the CDU is growing, he called for the mobilization of militants and contact with people, and warned that the campaign is not over yet.

At the end of his speech, Paulo Raimundo used the words of architect Álvaro Siza Vieira, who supports that force: «CDU as always, but now more than ever».

"This is the great challenge that is being faced here. Let us mobilize, with reason on our side," he stressed.

Before the speeches, there was a concert by Vitorino, who played, among others, «Fado Alexandrino», «A Morte Saiu à Rua» and «Chamaram-me Cigano», a song by Zeca Afonso, in which he made a change in the last verse, exchanging the original «diabo» for «Ventura», when he sang: «mas teve o Ventura na mão».

The concert ended with “The Fall of the Empire”, because “all empires fall”, said Vitorino, criticizing US President Donald Trump and Israel, and hearing slogans from the audience: “Palestine will win!”.
