The number of bathers treated for contamination on Nazaré beach has increased to 116.

The number of people treated at the Local Health Unit (ULS) in the Leiria Region with symptoms related to the contamination that occurred on Friday in the water at Nazaré beach increased today to 116.
According to updated information from the ULS, as of 2:00 pm today, 72 children and young people and 44 adults were assisted.
Among the people exposed and monitored by the ULS, 70 are women and 46 are men.
“The majority of cases remain among children and adolescents (62%),” said the same source, in a statement sent to the Lusa news agency.
Nazaré beach was closed to swimming on Friday, after a technical failure that caused a discharge into the storm sewer and bad smells, but the ban was lifted on Saturday night, after the results of the water tests were known.
In a statement, the Nazaré City Council revealed that, after a visit carried out on Saturday afternoon, “it was possible to confirm that the sea water is currently clear and transparent, with no signs of macroscopic organic constituents”.
Cited in the municipality's statement, the Centro Regional Health Delegation reported that, given the results of the water analysis carried out on Friday, and given the "declining trend" in the use of health services by "users with gastrointestinal symptoms", the ban on bathing on the beach was lifted.
The Leiria Region's ULS detailed on Saturday that the symptoms presented were particularly related to vomiting, nausea and diarrhea.
