Socialist Party leader challenges government to leave its offices and says there is a solution to housing problems

The PS secretary-general challenged the government to leave its offices and go out into the field to talk to people, businesses, and institutions, arguing that there are solutions to housing problems.
José Luís Carneiro stated this Monday that, within a year, it is possible to put two thousand modular homes on the market and, within four years, 75 to 80 thousand homes, with around 100 square meters and a cost of 90 to 100 thousand euros.
"If these solutions exist, if they are part of the country's knowledge, are part of national companies, which mobilize the country's economy, my challenge is to the Government to get out of its offices, out of the air conditioning, get out on the ground, talk to people, talk to institutions, talk to companies and respond to their needs," the Socialist Party leader told reporters during a visit to the DST Group, which is linked to engineering and construction, particularly modular housing.
Until these homes are ready, socialist leader José suggests the intervention of the Catholic Church and Private Social Solidarity Institutions (IPSS), where "temporary housing can be found, on an urgent basis, particularly for the most vulnerable families."
For Carneiro, it is also necessary to launch a national program for the construction of housing at controlled costs, as has already happened.
"My duty is to present alternative proposals and solutions; whether the government listens or not is no longer my concern. What we are demonstrating is that there are solutions to the problems: there are solutions for housing, for coordinating medical emergencies, for transforming defense investment into valorization and investment in the country's economic infrastructure. What's needed is for the government to be able to listen and implement many of the solutions we have in the country," he added.
