Mirandela. GNR officer arrested for embezzling fines.

The Vila Flor Judicial Court decided this Friday that the GNR (National Republican Guard) officer from the Mirandela Territorial Detachment, arrested by the PJ (Judicial Police) for embezzling money from fines, will await trial in pre-trial detention.
A police source told Lusa that the coercive measure applied to the 45-year-old soldier was preventive detention, which will be served at the Tomar prison, a military prison.
The Judicial Police revealed this Friday that they arrested a military officer the previous day because he "allegedly failed to formally register and/or falsified several administrative offense reports, appropriating amounts corresponding to fines paid by offenders, causing damage to public funds," and is therefore strongly suspected of the crimes of document forgery, computer fraud, and embezzlement committed in the course of his police duties.
