The Misericórdia de Évora doubles its business volume in 10 years.

The turnover of the Santa Casa da Misericórdia de Évora (SCME) has doubled in the last 10 years, now reaching 17.6 million euros, revealed the head of the institution this Friday, who expressed his availability for a new term.
In statements to the Lusa news agency, the head of SCME, Francisco Lopes Figueira, gave a positive assessment of his approximately 10 years at the head of the institution and admitted he would run for a new term in the elections scheduled for December of this year.
" I am available to continue the work, especially since there are many investments to be made and implemented ," said the provider, regarding a statement released this Friday by the institution with a summary of the work carried out.
Lopes Figueira joined the management of the Misericórdia de Évora in 2015, being elected head of the institution for the first time in 2018 and re-elected in 2022.
Over these 10 years, the official indicated, SCME's turnover increased from 8.5 million euros to 17.6 million euros. Total assets grew from 9.7 million euros to 21.5 million euros, while equity increased from 8.1 million euros to 17.8 million euros, he added.
"It was a peaceful revolution," said the head of the Misericórdia of Évora, alluding to the institution's growth.
According to SCME, in addition to these results, several investments were made during this period, notably the expansion works of the hospital, managed in partnership with Luz Saúde, and the construction of an Integrated Continuing Care Unit.
“These investments, which amount to more than 15 million euros, were mostly made using funding under national and EU programs, which reveals the institution's growth also in technical terms,” he emphasized.
The institution also restored the Church of Mercy, created a museum and a student residence, opened the Queen Dona Leonor College in a new building, and rehabilitated and built housing for rent at controlled costs, among other projects.
In the social sphere, the provider highlighted that SCME has grown in its traditional areas of intervention and has ventured into new fields, such as the project to support the homeless, the canteen, and the social shop, among others. "We assist and serve 450 people a day in the social area," a number that includes "the more than 300 who depend on the Misericórdia for their livelihood," he noted.
