Alexander Ovechkin is steadily approaching the historical record of Canadian Wayne Gretzky, who has 894 goals. The Russian currently has 882 goals, three of which he scored in the last match against Edmonton. His team ended the match with a crushing 7:3 victory.

The Russian is only 12 goals away from repeating the Canadian's record. It was reported that when there are 4 goals left before the historic event, the head of the League Gary Bettman and Wayne Gretzky himself will attend every Washington game.

The next game of the "capitals" will take place on February 26. Currently, Ovechkin's team leads the standings of the regular NHL championship, having 84 points in 57 games.
