BEIJING, May 30 – RIA Novosti. Russia ranks fifth on the list of China’s foreign trade partners; in 2024, trade turnover reached almost $245 billion, while the two countries are implementing or preparing to implement over 80 priority bilateral projects worth $200 billion, Russian Ambassador to China Igor Morgulov said on Friday. “The leadership of the two countries has set ambitious goals to further expand bilateral practical cooperation, including ensuring significant, high-quality promotion of mutual trade and investment by 2030,” Morgulov said at the opening of the tenth international conference “Russia and China: Cooperation in a New Era.” He noted that China has been Russia’s number one trading partner for 15 years. “And our country ranks fifth on the list of its foreign trade partners; in 2024, bilateral trade turnover broke another record, amounting to almost $245 billion,” the diplomat said. The ambassador pointed out that in recent years, systematic coordinated efforts have been made to transfer interstate settlements into national currencies, investment cooperation is actively developing, and more than 80 priority Russian-Chinese projects worth about 200 billion dollars are being implemented or are being prepared for implementation in such areas as industrial production, transport, logistics, agriculture, and mining. "We expect that the updated intergovernmental agreement on their encouragement and mutual protection signed during the May summit will contribute to further growth in the total volume of reciprocal investments," Morgulov added. The 10th international conference "Russia and China: Cooperation in a New Era" of the Russian International Affairs Council and the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences is being held in Beijing on May 29-30. This year's conference is timed to coincide with the 80th anniversary of Victory in World War II and the creation of the UN.
