'Tick bites can have fatal consequences'

Infectious Diseases and Clinical Microbiology Specialist Assoc. Prof. Dr. Hüsrev Diktaş drew attention to the risks of tick bites and called on citizens to be aware of deadly infections such as Crimean-Congo Hemorrhagic Fever.
'THE BODY MUST BE CHECKED AFTER RETURNING FROM NATURE'Assoc. Prof. Dr. Diktaş, who stated that ticks have always existed in nature, said, “Ticks do not appear when the weather gets warmer. They already exist in nature. However, as people start to be more intertwined with nature in hot weather, tick contacts also increase. Crimean-Congo Hemorrhagic Fever, which is especially seen in regions such as Central Anatolia and the Northern Black Sea, is a serious disease transmitted by tick bites and can lead to fatal results. After returning home from nature, it is absolutely necessary to check for ticks in exposed areas such as arms, legs, back and scalp. If a tick is noticed, it should definitely not be removed by hand. Because during manual interventions, microorganisms carried by the tick can enter the body.”
'REMOVE THE TICK IN A HEALTH CENTER'Assoc. Prof. Dr. Diktaş said that when a tick bite is detected, the nearest health institution should be applied to without wasting time, and said, “If the tick is not removed with appropriate methods, it can directly inject the virus it carries into the human body. This can lead to fatal consequences. It must be removed by a health professional and then follow-up examinations should be performed.”
Assoc. Prof. Dr. Diktaş, who stated that the symptoms of the disease can appear within a week after a tick bite, said, “High fever, weakness, widespread muscle and joint pain can be seen. These symptoms are similar to upper respiratory tract infections, but if the disease progresses, it can lead to serious bleeding in the internal organs and skin. This can cause serious conditions that can result in death.”
