4 out of every 10 cars sold in Türkiye are electric or hybrid

In Türkiye, electric and hybrid automobiles accounted for 42.9 percent of the market in the first 5 months of the year, with total sales reaching 169,246.
According to information compiled by AA correspondent from Automotive Distributors and Mobility Association (ODMD) data, automobile sales increased by 5.1 percent in the January-May period of this year compared to the same period last year, reaching 394,327, while light commercial vehicle sales decreased by 1.7 percent, reaching 95,039.
During the period in question, 189,676 gasoline cars and 109,398 hybrid cars were sold in the Turkish automobile market. The number of diesel car sales was 32,960, and the number of LPG car sales was 2,445. The sales of fully electric cars, which run on electricity only, were recorded as 59,092.
When vehicles with "extended range" systems, where a gasoline generator charges the battery and propulsion is provided by the electric motor, are included, the number of electric car sales rose to 59,848.
Meanwhile, extended range cars are also included in the "electric" class as Customs Tariff Statistics Position.
Decline in sales of gasoline, diesel and LPG carsIn the first five months of the year, sales of gasoline cars fell by 23.5 percent, diesels by 16.2 percent and LPG by 12.1 percent. During this period, hybrid car sales increased by 102.3 percent and fully electric car sales increased by 114.1 percent.
It is stated that the main reason for the decrease in diesel car sales is that global manufacturers continue to terminate diesel car production, and therefore no new diesel cars are offered to the market.
Market share of fully electric cars rises to 15 percentThe share of gasoline-powered cars in sales, which was 66.1 percent in the first 5 months of last year, fell to 48.1 percent in the same period this year. The share of diesel cars fell from 10.5 percent to 8.4 percent, and the share of LPG cars fell from 0.7 percent to 0.6 percent.
In the January-May period, the share of total sales increased from 7.4 percent to 15 percent in fully electric cars and from 14.4 percent to 27.7 percent in hybrids.
When the automobiles are considered as fully electric, extended range electric and hybrid, it was seen that 42.9 percent of the total market consists of vehicles with electric motors and their total sales reached 169 thousand 246. Thus, 4 out of every 10 automobiles sold in Türkiye are electric or hybrid vehicles.
In the same period, plug-in hybrids reached 20,812 sales, accounting for a 5.3 percent share among hybrid vehicles. Compared to the same period last year, the increase was 1,402.7 percent.
In May, a total of 16,802 "fully electric" cars were sold. The market share of these cars in May was calculated as 19.7 percent. (AA)
