Action was taken against 475,976 motorcyclists who did not wear helmets

Minister Yerlikaya, in a statement he made on his social media account, said, "A total of 475,976 actions were taken by our traffic teams regarding motorcycle and moped drivers/passengers who did not use protective headgear (helmet) between January 1 and May 21, 2025. The use of protective headgear by our motorcycle and moped drivers and passengers greatly reduces the risk of loss of life and injury in fatal and injury traffic accidents. Wearing a helmet alone is not enough; it is vital that the helmet is used correctly and locked. A helmet is not just a piece of equipment; it is a lifesaver. Your loved ones are waiting for you, please do not neglect to wear a helmet."

Minister Yerlikaya, who also included traffic inspection data in his post, said, "Our security and gendarmerie traffic teams inspected 3 million 617 thousand 99 vehicles between May 15-22, 2025. Action was taken against 39 drivers who used devices with light or audible warning signs (flashing) by attaching them to vehicles that are not permitted by law. Action was taken against a total of 534 thousand 508 vehicles/drivers, including 162 thousand 726 who violated speed, 27 thousand 725 who did not have periodic inspections, 28 thousand 892 who did not use seat belts, 17 thousand 93 who used vehicles without a driver's license, and 7 thousand 434 who did not have compulsory financial liability insurance.
