The Taliban interior ministry has also confirmed that over 1,300 have been injured in the earthquake in eastern Afghanistan.
It took place at around 11.45pm local time on Sunday (8.15pm BST).
The Taliban government has confirmed that 622 people have died in the earthquake.
At least three villages were hit in the Kunar province.
Jalalabad, which has a population of around 300,000, is a metropolitan trade city. It is Afghanistan's fifth-largest city.
Most of its buildings are low-rise constructions, mostly of concrete and brick, and its outlying areas include homes built of mud bricks and wood. Many are of poor construction.
It also has considerable agriculture and farming, including citrus fruit and rice, with the Kabul River flowing through the city.
Sharafat Zaman, a spokesman for Afghanistan's ministry of public health, said: "Rescue operations are still under way there, and several villages have been completely destroyed.
"The figures for martyrs and injured are changing. Medical teams from Kunar, Nangarhar and the capital Kabul have arrived in the area."
Afghanistan's state-run broadcaster has revealed that at least 500 people have been killed and 1,000 others injured after the 6.0 magnitude earthquake.
The public health ministry says 300 people have been injured in the Laghman and Nangarhar provinces.
It has also been confirmed that 20 people died and 30 injured in a village in Kunar.
Health ministry spokesperson Sharafat Zaman said: "Unconfirmed reports indicate that nearly 30 people from one village have been killed, but so far there are no exact figures regarding the casualties."
He added: "Some of the injured have been evacuated, and victims trapped under collapsed houses have been recovered.
"The numbers of the injured and the dead are likely higher, but since the area has limited access and communication, our teams are still on the ground.
"Once accurate figures are collected, God willing, we will share them with you."

Buildings shook from capital city Kabul to Islamabad in Pakistan.
While the exact number is yet to be confirmed, the Taliban governments believes "hundreds" are dead following the earthquake.
