M25 Dartford traffic LIVE: Severe delays as crash sparks chaos in tunnel

Significant delays are affecting the Dartford Crossing (Image: Motorway Cameras)

Dartford Crossing is experiencing severe delays after a crash and breakdowns in the tunnel. Several incidents this morning in the Dartford tunnels have led to a backlog, resulting in congestion and delays of about 40 minutes for drivers heading toward the crossing.

Heavy traffic has built up on the anticlockwise carriageway approaching the crossing between Essex and Kent. While there is some traffic on the clockwise carriageway over the QEII Bridge, it is flowing more smoothly compared to the opposite side.

Traffic on the M25 is now flowing smoothly, with motorway cameras confirming free movement. However, the traffic map indicates congestion just after crossing the river near Dartford, KentLive reported.

If you’re heading along the A2 towards the M25, expect heavy delays and stop-and-go traffic due to one lane being closed because of a broken-down lorry. This blockage is located near the B255/Bluewater (Bean Interchange).

The resulting congestion stretches back past Tollgate Services to Gravesend East, with travel times being around 25 minutes.

At 8:32am, traffic monitoring site Inrix reported severe delays on the M25 anticlockwise between junction 3 (Swanley) and junction 29 (Romford/Basildon), with travel times exceeding 60 minutes.

Traffic monitoring site Inrix said around 8.30am: "Severe delays on M25 anticlockwise from J3 M20 (Swanley Interchange) to J29 A127 (Romford/Basildon). Travel time is over 60 minutes."

"To go 14 miles, via the Dartford Tunnels, after a few breakdowns and a minor accident early on."
