Two women died on Sunday at two nearby beaches in Cornwall, in unrelated incidents. One woman, believed to be in her 50s, was pulled from the water at Portreath Beach near St Ives, Cornwall.

Paramedics, who rushed to the scene shortly after midday, were sadly unable to revive her. She was suspected to have suffered a cardiac arrest.

Less than four hours later, the body of another woman was found. She is thought to have gotten into trouble while swimming at Porthcothan beach near Padstow. The woman was discovered face down in the water.

A spokesperson for Devon and Cornwall Police said: “Our thoughts are with the families and loved ones of both women at this incredibly difficult time. There is no indication that the two incidents are connected.”
