Ariana Grande and Cynthia Erivo Are Bringing Wicked to TV

Ariana Grande and Cynthia Erivo Are Bringing Wicked to TV

Come fall, Wicked fans will be able to hold space for “Defying Gravity” at home again with a special televised event. A live musical special featuring Ariana Grande and Cynthia Erivo, the stars of Jon M. Chu’s cinematic adaptation of the Broadway hit, will be broadcast on NBC and Peacock later this year.

The announcement which was made during NBC’s upfronts, was reported by Variety. The panel presentation featured director Jon M. Chu on hand for the news. “I am absolutely delighted to let you in on a centerpiece of our campaign for the second film, and it’s something that’s never been done in the 22-year history of Wicked,” Chu teased, before discussing the ensemble show, which will feature Erivo and Grande, among other members of the cast of the Wicked movie, singing a selection of songs from the debut film, as well as, seemingly, a few teasery renditions from this year’s sequel, Wicked: For Good.

“This fall, our stars, the wonderful Cynthia Erivo and incandescent Ariana Grande, will be joined by their castmates and some wonderful surprise guests in a one time only event from the Peacock Theater in Los Angeles, they will perform live many of the songs from the first movie–and maybe a little bit from the second one as well, for a night of entertainment that we think will be, as they say in Oz, thrillifying.” Chu added continued.

Although the special has yet to get a broadcast date, it’s set to coincide with promotion for For Good‘s release, so we can expect it sometime before November 21, 2025.
