Saltillo prepares for reconstruction after rains; mobility is prioritized and commuter rail is under review.

Mayor Javier Díaz González details an action plan to rehabilitate the city and manages key infrastructure projects, including the passenger train station.
With the expectation of sunny days and the cessation of rain, the Saltillo municipal government is preparing to take to the streets and address the problems arising from the recent rainfall . Javier Díaz González , mayor of Saltillo, has outlined an immediate action plan that prioritizes the rehabilitation of road infrastructure and the normalization of the city, while also moving forward with defining the layout and location of the passenger train station.
Comprehensive brigades for recovery
Mayor Díaz González emphasized that not only the areas traditionally involved in public works and primary services are participating in the recovery efforts. "Areas that have nothing to do with the issue—I'm talking about tourism, sports, culture, economic development—we incorporated personnel from those areas into the brigades, and they were helping with cleanup, debris removal, and various other actions in different neighborhoods, to try to return to normalcy as quickly as possible," he stated. This interdepartmental collaboration seeks to expeditiously guarantee the safety of Saltillo families.

Road challenges and the search for lasting solutions
One of the main challenges facing the city is the severe damage to the pavement on key avenues. Díaz González mentioned that rehabilitation options are being evaluated, including the possibility of implementing hydraulic concrete in high-impact areas. However, he acknowledged that cost is a determining factor.
" Paving there costs you, if I remember correctly. Nerio gave me the budget: 2.3 million pesos to resurface everything as best as possible, and hydraulic concrete goes up by another 4 million, going to 6.5, 6.7 million," he explained. He emphasized that the greatest effort will be made with the available resources, mostly our own due to the drop in federal revenue sharing.
Crucial advances for passenger trains and suburban potential
Regarding the passenger train project, the mayor revealed that key meetings have been held to define the final layout of the urban area, pedestrian and vehicle crossings, and the need for overpasses with specific heights.
“The entire passenger train will be confined,” said Díaz González, which requires meticulous planning of crossings to maintain the city’s flow. In addition, viaducts are being evaluated at points where the train will join existing freight lines.
The location of the main station in Saltillo is still under discussion, with two main options: the old train station on Emilio Carranza or an area near the intersection of Emilio Carranza and Francisco Coss.
