Without Macri, PRO deputies meet for dinner amid changes in Congress

The PRO leadership is experiencing days of intense emotions and political decisions. After playing a largely passive role in the electoral agreement with La Libertad Avanza , the party became a central player in the October 26th victory, with Diego Santilli heading the winning list in the province of Buenos Aires. However, the political space led by Mauricio Macri remains standing despite its alliance with LLA and is already working on how to establish a presence in Congress .
In this new scenario, the PRO bloc in the Chamber of Deputies held a camaraderie dinner this Tuesday, attended by current legislators and those who will take office on December 10. According to sources consulted by TN , it was an informal barbecue , designed to strengthen internal ties and define strategies for the new phase of the coalition.
Among the invited guests was a key figure: Mauricio Macri . The former president and current head of the PRO party was invited to the meeting, although his presence wasn't confirmed until the last minute . His potential attendance took on particular significance after his criticism of Javier Milei's government for the Cabinet changes, despite having welcomed Santilli's appointment to the Interior Ministry.
Sources close to the former president confirmed that Macri is " very pleased with Diego's appointment ," which he described as "a great decision" by the President. They clarified, however, that the appointment "was not the result of a formal political agreement" between PRO and La Libertad Avanza, although "profiles" and potential candidates were discussed during the dinner Milei and Macri shared on Friday in Olivos.
“We in PRO are very pleased with Diego’s appointment. He’s a great leader who has always worked with great energy and professionalism wherever he’s been,” said a leading figure in the party from Buenos Aires province. “We have no doubt that he will be key in coordinating with the governors and helping to implement the reforms the country needs,” he added.
Days earlier, Macri had harshly criticized the President's leadership. In recent statements, he maintained that " exercising leadership without a team is very difficult ," in a clear allusion to Milei's personalistic style. He also criticized leaders with " narcissistic personalities " who "neither listen to nor care about what others say."
Despite these differences, the former head of state reaffirmed PRO's support for the government: "We are supporting this government like never before in the history of Argentine politics, to win the elections and help govern with a parliamentary minority, and we will continue to do so based on ideas," he emphasized. In that context, Macri warned about the risks of political isolation: " In an era of fragmented and violent politics, exercising leadership without a team or consensus is a mistake. The pressure for short-termism is relentless ."
