Work - Cinema and Work: The New Edition of the "Labour Film Festival" Kicks Off - Work - Varese News

The twenty-first edition of the Labour Film Festival , the event dedicated to the intersection of cinema and labor promoted by CISL and Acli Lombardia with Cinema Rondinella , will take place this year from September 1st to October 9th. The first of its kind in Italy and one of the most important in Europe, it opens, as usual, the season of Cinema Rondinella reviews and festivals.
The twenty-first edition focuses on a variety of topics, including: the experience of relational work and personal care in schools, hospitals, prisons, and with people with disabilities; the relationship between production and its impact on the environment; and the struggles and injustices in today's world of work. This year, the festival will once again feature three sections: Labour.Short, dedicated to short films; Labour.Doc, for documentaries; and Labour.Film, for feature-length fiction.
A program characterized by its exploration of the multiple relationships between humanity and the world of work: the exploitation of young migrant delivery riders in Boris Lojkine's Souleymane; the chaotic world of cooking and dining in Alonso Ruizpalacios's Aragoste a Manhattan; the vocation and challenges of the teaching profession in Thomas Lilti's A Practical Guide for Teachers; the complicated role of the prison guard in Gustav Moller's Sons; and the unwavering dedication of a nurse working in an understaffed hospital in Petra Volpe's Last Shift.
In total, the program includes 17 dedicated days, 31 films, 1 theatrical performance, and several special evenings, featuring the participation of directors and experts: the evening of "cinema professions" featuring a meeting with Maurizio Nichetti, director of his latest film AMICHE MAI, and a masterclass on his brilliant and innovative career as a director and actor; a meeting with directors Silvia Luzi and Luca Bellino, authors of the recent LUCE and previously of the beautiful DELL'ARTE DELLA GUERRA, already presented at a past edition of the LFF; a meeting with Davide De Michelis, Alessandro Rocca, and Vito Fiorino, authors and actor of the documentary A NORD DI LAMPEDUSA, in search of the survivors of the dramatically infamous shipwreck of October 2013, which occurred off the coast of the Sicilian island; A look back with Costantino Corbari and Massimo Romagnoli's animated account of the BZ 308, an all-Italian four-engine aircraft built immediately after the end of World War II, the pride of the Breda Aeronautica workers in Sesto San Giovanni. The program also features the theatrical performance "E LI CHIAMANO RAGAZZI SPECIALI" (And They Call Them Special Boys) by and starring Giambattista Anastasio and Alessandro Smorlesi, on the relationship between disability, denied rights, and work, and the "Apericine al Labour" (Aperitifs at Labour), combining tastings, conviviality, and the local area. As usual, the festival will close with the Labour Short Award, an evening dedicated to short films with the Audience Award and the Jury Award, composed of the young students of the "RondiZ Club."
For the 2025 edition, the Labour Film Festival will once again be supported by important media partners such as Avvenire, Il diario del lavoro, Il Segno, Radio Marconi, Conquiste del lavoro, and CISL TV. The admission price until September 25th is €3.50 (as part of "Cinema Revolution," for European cinema); from September 25th, it is €5.00 for evening screenings and €3.50 for afternoon screenings.
The entire festival will take place, as always, at the Rondinella Cinema in Sesto San Giovanni, at Via Matteotti 425, with the patronage of Europa Cinemas, and in collaboration with the Circolo Acli San Clemente aps, Lombardia Servizi, FITEL Lombardia, CRT FITEL Milano, and BiblioLavoro.
The complete program, updates, and factsheets for all the films presented will be available on www.cinemarondinella.it and in the “More information – Shows” section of the Cisl Lombardia website www.lombardia.cisl.it .
