Smart Montecitorio, a glass house for citizens. Social media numbers are growing.

Montecitorio is becoming increasingly smart, becoming a glass house for citizens. The Chamber, building on previous legislative efforts, is seeking to innovate in its communications, particularly targeting younger generations. It is also focusing on social media, including through new products, in an effort that, judging by the numbers, is bearing fruit. For example, of the six thousand users who have downloaded and listened to "La sede è aperta - Dietro le quinte di Montecitorio," the podcast produced by the press office, half come from Spotify, not official channels like the website.
Podcasts are one of this year's most significant innovations: a weekly magazine launched on January 13th with columns dedicated to political figures who have shaped our country's history, as well as curiosities and events from the government. Downloads so far have reached 6,000. Since the beginning of the legislative session, there has also been a significant investment in social media, which has seen an increase in followers. On X, followers have increased from 257,000 to 380,000 compared to the previous legislative session. Numbers are particularly growing on Instagram, with followers doubling and interactions essentially quadrupling.
Users' interest is particularly captured by figures from Italian history, such as Pertini, Iotti, but also Falcone and Borsellino. A post commemorating the murder of the judge in Capaci on May 23, 1992, reached over 80,000 users. Similar numbers were posted for content on the anniversary of Enrico Berlinguer's death, as well as for the national day in memory of the victims of immigration (49,000 interested users). And then there's the post on Borsellino with audio excerpts from some of his hearings before the Anti-Mafia Commission, starting in 1984. The last of these was in Trapani on September 21, 1991, just months before the attack in which he was killed.
The video of the Frecce Tricolori flyover with the Red Arrows during the state visit of King Charles of England has attracted over 63,000 users and 5.3,000 interactions and comments. This Instagram account, among other things, is well within the average of other European institutions, with over 105,000 followers, exactly the same as the Assemblée Nationale and just below the British Parliament, which has 214,000.
More generally, there has been an increase in press conferences in the Chamber (471 since January 9, which remain archived) and in initiatives in which citizens can register to participate. Montecitorio also maintains a close eye on young people: over 53,000 students have been welcomed into the Chamber from a total of 1,856 schools.
