Eighth-grade exam 2025: Polish language tomorrow. What will the exam look like?
- Part II – in this part of the eighth-grade exam, students will be asked to write an essay on one of two proposed topics. The text must contain at least 200 words. One topic will be creative in nature (a creative short story), and the other will be argumentative in nature (an essay or a speech). In this part, students must refer to the required school reading and/or to a work or works of their own choosing. There are 20 points to be won.
In total, students can get 45 points for solving tasks from both parts of the paper.
Eighth-grade Polish exam: What types of tasks may appear on the exam paper?The exam paper will contain both closed tasks (including multiple choice, true-false and matching tasks) and open-ended tasks. In open-ended tasks, students will have to formulate an answer on their own. The paper may include gap-fill tasks, in which they will have to complete a sentence or text with one or more words. The next type is the short-answer task. They require the creation of a short text, e.g. an announcement or an invitation. The last type is the extended-answer task, i.e. the aforementioned essay.

The eighth-grade Polish language exam will primarily test students' skills related to argumentation, reasoning and formulating opinions. Literary competences will also be verified, including understanding the meaning of works, cultural competences (e.g. interpreting a poster) and linguistic competences (e.g. the ability to use various linguistic means). In addition, the exam will test knowledge of the content and issues of compulsory readings , the ability to analyze and interpret poetic texts indicated in the core curriculum and others.
