Registration obligation to be eliminated? Ministry of Interior and Administration wants to simplify procedures

- The Ministry of Interior and Administration sees the need to streamline and simplify administrative procedures in the area of population registration.
- Data collected in the population registration system should not only be accurate and up-to-date, but also easily accessible.
- Proposed changes will be consulted with local governments, public administration bodies and other entities for which data collected in the PESEL register are a key tool for implementing statutory tasks.
MP Piotr Górnikiewicz asked the Ministry of Interior and Administration about the effectiveness of the solution consisting of the registration obligation, i.e. the obligation for citizens to report their place of residence.
As he noted - "in an era of growing social mobility and technological progress, doubts arise as to the relevance and effectiveness of this solution."
As he added, this system "turns out to be a relic of old realities, not always reflecting the actual state of residence of citizens , especially taking into account mobility - students, migrant workers and frequent changes of place of residence."
The MP noted that this state of affairs is also facilitated by the fact that there is no criminal penalty for failing to comply with this obligation.
The Ministry of Interior and Administration is carrying out work aimed at improving the efficiency of the population registration systemIn response, Tomasz Szymański, Secretary of State at the Ministry of Internal Affairs and Administration, admitted that the ministry sees a need to streamline and simplify administrative procedures in the area of population registration - "so that they are more friendly both to citizens and local government units".
As it turns out, work is currently underway to - as Szymański put it - improve the efficiency of the system, as well as increase its coherence, transparency and availability.
Data collected in the population registration system should not only be accurate and up-to-date, but also easily accessible to entities that need them to perform their tasks.
- explained the deputy minister.
He also informed that the proposed changes will be consulted with local governments, public administration bodies and other entities for which the data collected in the PESEL register are a key tool for implementing statutory tasks.
