Albufeira will open a tender for the construction of the Ferreiras Cemetery

The construction contract for the future Ferreiras Cemetery was the subject of a council decision on the 5th of this month, with approval being given to launch the public tender, for a value of approximately 1 million and 600 thousand euros (1,591,132.15 euros – VAT included), with an execution period of 365 days.

This competition is for Phase 1 A, which constitutes one of the three parts of the project.

It should be noted that the company responsible for the Architectural and Specialty Project was selected in a design competition with six competitors, with the first three places being awarded, with an honorable mention also being awarded.

The project now in competition has been adjusted, constituting just one of the execution phases of the total project.

The Ferreiras Cemetery will be built on a plot of land with an area of approximately 21,400 square meters (m2), "carefully chosen for its good accessibility, low car traffic and proximity to social and religious facilities, particularly the Church of São José", according to Albufeira City Council .

Based on the preliminary competition program, the architectural solution must adapt to the terrain's modulation, "with the imperative of building a public facility of great dignity and nobility, which must constitute an environment for reconnecting memories," adds the municipality.

Burial systems should enable greater profitability of cemetery space, allowing traditional forms of burial to be reconciled with more contemporary ones.
