Man wanted in Spain for violent crimes arrested in Portugal

A 40-year-old foreigner, wanted in Spain for criminal association and homicide, was arrested by the Judicial Police in the West region.

"The man is the alleged leader of a criminal organization that was primarily dedicated to drug trafficking and assaults on other drug traffickers," reads the statement from the Portuguese authorities.

The man now detained in Portugal is also suspected of being the mastermind behind the death of a member of a rival criminal group, the victim of a shooting that took place in a parking lot in February 2023, in the province of Barcelona in Spain.

The foreign citizen has already been brought before the Lisbon Court of Appeal, and has been ordered to await further terms of the extradition process, subject to the coercive measure of preventive detention.
