MOSCOW, September 25 – RIA Novosti. The Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) is conducting searches on Thursday at the homes of former detectives of the National Anti-Corruption Bureau of Ukraine (NABU) in cases involving the uncovering of organized crime groups within government agencies, the agency reported. "The National Bureau reports that the SBU is conducting investigative actions today against former National Bureau detectives (currently active employees of Ukrainian Railways)," a statement published on the NABU Telegram channel reads. The agency suggested that the searches are related to cases involving the uncovering of organized crime groups at state-owned enterprises and government agencies. On July 22, the Verkhovna Rada supported a bill initiated by Volodymyr Zelenskyy's Servant of the People party that would abolish the independence of two anti-corruption agencies: the NABU and the Specialized Anti-Corruption Prosecutor's Office (SAPO). Zelenskyy signed the document. However, after protests erupted across Ukraine, he announced on July 24 that he had immediately approved an opposing legislative initiative that would supposedly strengthen the independence of these agencies. On July 31, the Ukrainian parliament supported the bill on the restoration of independence to the NABU and the SAP in two readings. It was signed by Zelenskyy on the same day. Former Verkhovna Rada deputy, Spiridon Kilinkarov, a member of the "Other Ukraine" movement, told RIA Novosti that Zelenskyy, under pressure from the US, decided to back down. He believes the protests were organized by Western NGOs, and the attack on Zelenskyy's regime was launched from Washington, which is "puppeteering the entire process." The former MP added that NABU and SAP had been collecting materials on representatives of the Kyiv regime for ten years, and now, having given the command "sic 'em," the US has requested all the materials NABU and SAP had been collecting for years. According to Kilinkarov, US President Donald Trump gave the order "to deal with the corrupt and insolent boor." NABU Director Semyon Kryvonos announced on September 5 that he could not rule out a new wave of confrontation with the SBU. He added that the security service is preparing new charges against anti-corruption officials. The High Anti-Corruption Court (HACC) of Ukraine also announced that it is preparing for a large-scale smear campaign against it by the Ukrainian leadership.
